Patricia Velásquez

The creative process extends beyond the photo, canvas, film and media. It also catalyzes charity or philanthropy as well as activism. Supermodel, award-winning actress, staunch philanthropist, conscientious activist as well as a writer and loved mom Patricia Velasquez applies an eternal imaginative spirit to everything she does-whether it be starring in blockbusters like The Curse of La Llorona or launching the Wayuu Taya Foundation and participating on the UNESCO Board. No matter what, she achieves major strides by drawing on instinct and consciously paving her own pathway. She says, "I see my career as a ladder." "I made every step. It was amazing to be able to do so, since there has been longevity. I didn't stop moving, I just kept my head in the air. The metaphor directly resembles the experience of forming. Born in Venezuela but was raised in France and Mexico after which she moved to Venezuela after a handful of years. Her parents, who were employed as educators in South America, moved her family into a cramped home without water and elevators. To provide water for the entire unit, Patricia often carried heavy buckets of water up 15 levels of stairs. Between her studies in engineering as well as dance training, Patricia tried to help the family in any way she could. The commitment she made to her family, which was the most important factor that helped her rise to the top of the fashion industry, led to her scouted to model in Milan. She recalls that she was invited to visit Italy to model for the fashion industry. "If I could pay thirty dollars per month back to Venezuela, it would be worth it as it would pay for all the water used in the building." Patricia's success was a major moment in fashion since she was able to draw attention to South America for first time. The "first modeling gig Karl Lagerfeld photographed" was a huge break. She continued to appear in fashion shows as well as front editorial spreads and was featured in ads for Chanel, Dolce & Gabbana and Fendi. She also appeared in Oprah's "Supermodel of the World Contest" sponsored by Ford Models. In addition she was featured on the covers of Vogue, Bazaar, Marie Claire and many others.
